Night Guard
Bruxism, clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth, can cause severe wear on your teeth. This can cause the teeth to appear short and jagged. Bruxism can cause several other problems, including headaches, ear aches, jaw pain, and even loss of sleep. An occlusal guard, or night guard, is used to protect your teeth from wearing down and possibly breaking. There are several types of night guards, the most common being a thick acrylic splint that covered all of the top or bottom teeth.
Another common device is an NTi-tss device. This is a much smaller and thicker appliance that only covers the front teeth. The back teeth are unable to touch with the NTi-tss in place. The NTI-tss Plus is an FDA approved treatment for the prevention of medically diagnosed migraine pain, associated tension-type headaches, brusism, and TMJ syndrome. In clinical trials reviewed by the FDA, 82% of migraine sufferers had a 77% average reduction of migraine pain attacks within the first 8 weeks of use. Listen to this dental hygienist's testimony about her experience with migraine and how the NTI-tss helped her.

It may take several attempts to find the occlusal device that is right for you. What Happens During a Night Guard Appointment?
The first step to getting your new night guard is to take impressions of your mouth and a record of your bite. These items are sent off to the dental laboratory. You will need to return to the office in two to three weeks to deliver the night guard. At this appointment, the doctor will try the night guard in your mouth and make sure it is comfortable. You will need to bring your night guard in periodically to make sure it is still fitting correctly.
