Sealants
Sealants are used to protect the pits and grooves of the teeth. Sealants are most often placed on the biting surfaces of the teeth, however they can be placed elsewhere if needed. Certain teeth are difficult to clean even with good brushing and flossing. Sealing these help will help prevent cavities. Sealants are not 100% effective in preventing decay. Good brushing and flossing are needed to remove plaque from the teeth.

Reasons to Seal Teeth
-
Deep Pits and Grooves in the teeth
-
Seal healthy teeth on patients with a history of decay
-
Chipped or missing sealants done previously
How Sealants Work
A sealant appointment is very quick and can usually be done the same day as your cleaning. It is not necessary to numb you for a sealant. The teeth are first cleaned and dried. The sealant material is placed in all the pits and grooves on the tooth. The sealant material is then set using an intense blue light. Your bite will be checked to make sure the sealants are comfortable. That's it, you're all done!!
